About rod construction and block/rod building (Norwegian “Stavlaft”)
Stave construction is the oldest Norwegian timber construction method and dates back so far that it is impossible to pinpoint the exact beginning. The technique has survived for thousands of years and Norwegian stave churches are the best preserved example of advanced stave construction.
Log cabins are stylish and have a lighter look than log cabins. Our log cabins have horizontal sills, strong posts and roof purlins. Between the posts and sleepers are vertical panels/planks.
Our log/staff cabins have hand-hewn gables, roof purlins, posts and sleepers made of coarse Norwegian timber. All cabin models can be built in block/rod construction.
Rod or log/rod construction gives you more choice in terms of room layout than a pure log cabin. Staftlaft cabins create a warm cabin atmosphere and a healthy indoor climate.
Skåbu Tradisjonsbygg has 20 years of experience in the construction of logs and blocks. We only use wood from the best areas in Norway. Through the project “Saving traditions for the future” we have developed the old building techniques so that the cabins can keep pace with new demands and wishes for today. The project was supported by “Innovasjon Norge”.
