On nature's terms
Since 1989, Skåbu Tradisjonsbygg has built a couple of hundred cabins, none of them the same because we help you create something unique and completely customized for you and your family. We’ve created some great cabin models to use as a starting point, all with our distinctive look and feel, with sturdy, robust posts and large windows for light and views. We want what we build to become part of the mountain and nature, which is why we build with renewable, locally sourced materials. We look forward to welcoming you and showing you our cabins, plots and opportunities!
Local craftsmanship for almost 30 years
Skåbu Tradisjonsbygg was founded by Pål Hallvard Virik in 1989, and has been registered as a company since 1997. The company’s premises are located in Skåbu, Northern Europe’s highest inhabited rural community, and is the largest private workplace in Skåbu. Skåbu Tradisjonsbygg is a master craftsman company, a publicly approved apprentice company and has central approval.
Through decades of construction and restoration projects, Skåbu Tradisjonsbygg has built up solid expertise in hand lay-up and stick-building. Skåbu Tradisjonsbygg’s specialty is the combination technique known as post and log construction (stavlaft).
Skåbu Tradisjonsbygg has employees with vocational training in bricklaying, tiling and paving, and spring room certification. The expertise available in Skåbu Tradisjonsbygg ranges from a trade certificate to a degree in history at university level. Skåbu Tradisjonsbygg stands out in the industry with this combination of vision and down-to-earth craftsmanship.
At Skåbu Tradisjonsbygg, we emphasize close dialogue before, during and after the building process has been completed. Skåbu Tradisjonsbygg has central approval and we take care of the entire building application process from application to the building being ready for occupation. We prepare construction drawings in close collaboration with you so that the building meets your wishes and needs, and also coordinate the other suppliers in the building process, such as the foundation contractor, plumber and electrician. You’ll have fewer companies to deal with and the construction process will be more efficient and coordinated.
Each cabin is tailored to the customer’s wishes and needs, which is why we haven’t yet built two completely identical cabins! Our goal is for customers to be satisfied with everything from start to finish and that when the key is handed over, they unlock their dream cabin.
We often find that the people we’ve built cabins for come back to us when they want to build a garage, shed or guest cabin – that’s the best praise we can get. We have a particularly close relationship with those who build cabins in Skåbu, because in this small mountain village everyone becomes part of the local community.
